Large corporations are mobile, extra-national entities with priorities that are at odds with stationary governments. Corporations float freely around the world soaking up arbitrage opportunities -- labor, taxes, land, entrepreneurship. Governments can only offer a momentary lure.

I snicker at the fleet of CEOs accompanying the US president to China. The CEOs have more power than either country, and have no allegiance to either country. Judging by their company actions, these leaders have more allegiance to low-costs and tax evasion than they do to the US -- as is their role as head of the organization.

They run organizations that are inherently at conflict with governments. The organizations are modern, mobile global rivals to stationary governments. The organizations have customers that choose to use them, but governments have citizens -- sometimes reluctant.

Corporations create great wealth, and they are an amazing innovation. It's just -- their priorities are in conflict with governments.
